A Creative Meditation - with an Essential Divinity Seed
Creative Meditation is founded in the recognition that everything originates within the forming fields of thought. Subscribing to this notion means that we can re-create ourselves, our attitude to life and the environment in which we live. So it follows that when enough people throughout the world are thinking positively we will re-create society.
'Theories are of no value until we have changed them into fact. Hence the value of meditating on an ideal. In meditation our thoughts vibrate temporarily to the measure of the conception and in time that vibration becomes permanent.'
The Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul (www.lucistrust.org)
Dis-Identification Exercise
This exercise is recommended as a prelude to each meditation and needs only 10 minutes to complete. Take up a comfortable, relaxed position with your eyes closed. Be aware of your breath and breathe quietly and rhythmically for a few moments to relax your body and calm your emotions.
Focus your attention within your body. Be aware of the sensations within it that you, the self, are conscious of. Breathe into any areas of tension or discomfort, and, as you breathe out, relax and let go.
When your body is comfortable and relaxed affirm quietly to yourself out loud:
Focus your attention now on your feelings and emotions. Be aware of what you, the self, the observer within, are feeling now and give it a name. Take the time to allow your emotions to settle and be calm as a pool of crystal clear water.
When you are ready, affirm quietly to your self, out loud:
Focus your attention now on your mind, on the field of thought. Be aware of all the many ways that you, the observing self within, can use your mind. Reflect for a moment on all the thing you have thought about today, then let all these thoughts go.
When you are ready affirm quietly to yourself, out loud:
Focus now within that centre of being which is the Self and affirm quietly and firmly:
Focus your attention within your body. Be aware of the sensations within it that you, the self, are conscious of. Breathe into any areas of tension or discomfort, and, as you breathe out, relax and let go.
When your body is comfortable and relaxed affirm quietly to yourself out loud:
- I have a body and "I" and my body are not the same.
My body may be in different conditions of health or sickness; it may be rested or tired, but it is not my real "I".
My body is my precious instrument of experience and action.
I treat it well; I seek to keep my body in good health, but it is not my self.
Focus your attention now on your feelings and emotions. Be aware of what you, the self, the observer within, are feeling now and give it a name. Take the time to allow your emotions to settle and be calm as a pool of crystal clear water.
When you are ready, affirm quietly to your self, out loud:
- I have emotions, and "I" and my emotions are not the same.
They are countless, contradictory, changing and yet I know that "I" always remain "I", myself, in times of hope or despair, in joy or in pain, in a state of irritation or calm.
Since I can observe and understand my emotions and then increasingly be in charge of them, it is evident that they are not my self.
I have emotions and "I" am distinct (though not separate), from my emotions.
Focus your attention now on your mind, on the field of thought. Be aware of all the many ways that you, the observing self within, can use your mind. Reflect for a moment on all the thing you have thought about today, then let all these thoughts go.
When you are ready affirm quietly to yourself, out loud:
- I have a mind, and "I" and my mind are not the same. It is more or less developed and active; it is undisciplined but teachable; it is an organ of knowledge in regard to the outer world as well as my inner world; but it is not my self.
I have a mind and "I" am distinct (though not separate), from my mind.
Focus now within that centre of being which is the Self and affirm quietly and firmly:
- I am a centre of pure self consciousness, I am a centre of will, capable of being in charge of all my psychological processes and my physcial body. I am the constant and unchanging Self.

A Creative Meditation - with an Essential Divinity Seed
Creative meditation is wholy contributive. It develops the higher uses of the mind and its hidden capacities to work within the more subjective fields of thought. Training in creative meditation and the use of it gradually over time releases a new creativity and constructive power. Development of the intellect, along with the higher abstract mind, allows moments of contemplation to be inspired and infused with new insights and intuitions.Contacting StillnessWe are all unique and within us are qualities that spring from a Source beyond our 'normal' personality. We each live busy lives and without realising we live 'off-centre' and disconnected from our self-sustaining inner centre of stillness.Contacting this source of spiritual nourishment requires quieting the personality so that there are no distractions. The three stages to achieving this are:'S/He who is wise is fearless'.'Often a grain is of more importance than a mountain.''All things have their significance.' 'May the seed idea of essential divinity be secured here and may it pervade my thoughts, words and actions.'
- Sitting with your back supported on a chair in a quiet room where you will not be disturbed, relax the body.
- Still and calm the emotions so that they become as 'quiet as a mountain lake'.
- Quieten the 'monkey mind!' Notice it jumps around, but do not give any attention to these thoughts, if it leaps away bring it gently and kindly back to stillness, and so maintain that steady central point of focus.
- Attached to a nearby stalk of grass is a chrysalis. Its brown leathery case is basking in the sun. Gradually one by one many more chrysalises in the field come into view. One of them is gently moving and wriggling. Eventually these movements cause the casing to split open and a butterfuly clambers into the warming sunlight. It takes time to straighten out its folded damp wings. it stretches and soaks up the heat and light. Its beautiful, shimmering, irridenscent colours are clearly visible. It becomes stronger moment by moment as it opens to the golden sunlight. Eventually it is bold enought to launch into flight towards the sun.

Creative Meditation - Right Human Relations
Contacting your Inner Centre of StillnessThis requires quieting the personality so that there is no interference or obstruction to remaing in contact with your centre of inner stillness.
Its three stages are:
- Sitting with your back supported on a chair in a quiet room where you will not be disturbed, relax the body.
- Still and calm the emotions so that they come as 'quiet as a mountain lake'.
- Quieten the 'monkey mind'! Notice it jumps around, but do not give any attention to these thoughts, if it leaps away bring it back to stillness, to maintain that steady, still point of silence.
Visualisation
Use of the imagination allows the open mind to draw on what it knows and allows new ideas and insights to drop into view often unexpectedly.
- Picture a village green, it may be familiar or totally imaginary. It is an early spring afternoon and it is sunny. All sorts of people are gathering here for the local community fete, young and old, families, children, friends and visitors. For a moment take in the details of the scene, notice the colours, picking out the sounds and noises of people chatting and laughing, children playing. There is a real expectancy at the prospect of being part of the crowd.
In the centre of the green there is a large wooden pole decorated with may different coloured streamers. Some people select these coloured ribbons and take up positions as the local band begins to play a familiar tune. you are part of the gathering and begin to dance, ducking and weaving in and out, smiling and greeting the others as you pass. Notice the feeling of belonging. the ribbons are woven into a gorgeous rainbow pattern. Eventually the music stops and all survey the pattern with pleasure and companionship.
Meditation
Meditation can be considered aspersistent thinking things through. Having raised your mental awareness by the visualisation exercise endeavour now to consider one of the following seed thoughts:
'Tolerance', is the first expression of compassionate understanding and wisdom in action.
Note: Work with the same seed idea for at least 7 days
Now turn your attention to the day ahead and from your considerations recognise the groups of relationships that you are a part of. Affirm to yourself with intention:
